Samsung DVD-P231 Progressive Scan DVD Player combines the video fidelity of Samsung's new 3:2 pull down progressive scan circuitry with essential DVD features to create a specialized solution for DVD. The component video outputs can be set to the NTSC standard 480i mode for connection to analog televisions, or the progressive scan 480P mode for use with the latest Digital Television displays that offer these superior connections.

Samsung's titanium-finished and remarkably affordable DVD-P231 features high-end component-video outputs, built-in MP3 and WMA decoding for home-brewed CD compilations, and even compatibility with JPEG image CDs and Kodak Picture CDs. Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVD-P231 stands ready to deliver the full potential of DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.
The DVD-P231 also performs 3:2 pulldown. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. Another handy feature is EZ View letterbox eliminator, which lets you enjoy full-screen pictures on 4:3 aspect-ratio TVs--even when watching widescreen DVDs.
A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.
